A performance marketing manager runs paid advertising campaigns – Google Ads, Meta Ads, programmatic – and is accountable for the business outcome of every rupee spent. In India, the salary range for this role is ₹15-40 LPA, making it one of the highest-paying jobs in digital marketing.
The range is wide for a reason. A junior performance marketer managing small budgets at an agency earns very differently from a senior manager owning ₹10 crore+ in annual ad spend at a D2C brand or funded startup. What you earn depends heavily on the scale you’re operating at and the business results you can demonstrate.
What the job actually involves
The simplest way to describe it: a performance marketer is responsible for making paid traffic profitable. That means setting up campaigns, monitoring what the data shows, and making decisions that change outcomes – not just reporting on them.
| Task | What it means in practice |
| Campaign setup | Building ad structures on Google Ads, Meta, programmatic platforms |
| Budget management | Allocating spend across channels based on performance |
| ROAS optimisation | Adjusting bids, creatives, and targeting to improve return on ad spend |
| A/B testing | Testing copy, visuals, audiences to find what converts better |
| Attribution analysis | Understanding which touchpoints are actually driving conversions |
| Reporting | Communicating results and decisions to business stakeholders |
The accountability is what separates performance marketing from most other marketing roles. If an SEO article doesn’t rank, that’s a process problem. If a performance campaign burns budget and produces no conversions, that’s a this-person’s-job problem. The directness of the feedback loop is why the role pays well – and why hiring managers screen hard for it.
What skills you actually need
Tool fluency is the floor, not the ceiling. Knowing how Meta Ads Manager looks is expected. The actual skill is understanding why your CPM is high and what to do about it – whether that’s a creative problem, an audience problem, or a bidding strategy problem.
The skills that separate hireable candidates from everyone else: real campaign experience with real budgets, the ability to read cost-per-acquisition data and make a decision, and the judgment to know when to scale and when to stop.
Kraftshala’s digital marketing course is built around exactly this. The program puts students on live campaigns with real ad budgets – not simulations – across Google and Meta. The reason 94% of MLP graduates get placed, and many land performance marketing roles at ₹4.5-10.05 LPA, is that they’ve already done the job before they interview for it.
What the salary trajectory looks like
Entry-level performance marketing roles in India start at ₹3.5-5 LPA. Senior individual contributors managing large budgets at growth-stage companies earn ₹15-25 LPA. Performance Marketing Heads and Directors at established brands or large agencies go up to ₹40 LPA and beyond.
The path from entry-level to senior is faster in this role than in most. Two strong projects with demonstrable ROAS improvement can do more for your salary than three years of routine execution.
