A former professional footballer who loved numbers, Bharat Chauhan weighed up MBA colleges in India and abroad – then chose a faster, job-linked route. Two interviews after finishing Kraftshala, he was placed at Publicis Global Delivery.
What challenges were you facing before Kraftshala?
I was planning to apply to MBA colleges in India and abroad. At the start I faced a lot of difficulty because there was no one to guide me on which colleges are actually worth it. People look at ROI and the average package – but no one talks about how important it is to get into a top B-school like the IIMs. If you’re getting into a low-ranked university, I don’t think there’s much use doing an MBA.
Preparing for CAT and taking a gap year is mentally challenging, and going abroad means loans and a hectic process. I had to make a decision, and I chose Kraftshala. I’m happy with it.
How did you get into digital marketing in the first place?
I’m the kind of person who tries everything – trial and error. After my 12th I tried coding, graphic design, video editing and digital marketing. I was really into numbers. Before my graduation I was a professional footballer and a football coach, so I was very into stats like pass percentage and accuracy.
The correlation between football stats and digital marketing developed my interest.
Some of my seniors from football were already digital marketing professionals and Kraftshala graduates. They suggested it, and I researched the pros and cons – I didn’t blindly trust them, because you have to do your own research.
What made you choose Kraftshala?
Two major factors. First, the learning – they clear your fundamentals across everything, from digital marketing to SEO to email marketing, plus the behavioral part. Second, the placement assistance. When you compete on LinkedIn, you’re competing against the world; when you apply through Kraftshala, the competition is lower and the process is filtered – that’s good for you and for recruiters.
What also stood out was the placement rate, and the transparency. I’ve seen MBA colleges talk about placement reports without publishing them. Kraftshala makes it all public. And the industry experts who teach you – that stood out too.
How did the placement process go for you?
Right after the course I gave about two interviews – one for HiveMinds and one for PGD (Publicis Global Delivery). HiveMinds went well but responded late, while PGD came earlier, so I joined PGD. It was my goal both during and after Kraftshala.
I was making notes throughout – I’d gotten used to it during the course, and that helped a lot. Kraftshala’s placement assistance also gives you questions that are repeatedly asked in interviews.
I went through those, stuck to my basics, and that helped me.
My position is Trainee Analyst, working on search ads specifically, at 5 LPA. I’ve been working close to two months, and I love everything about it.
What did your parents think?
They were very happy – it’s my first job. And since I work from home, I can give time to my family; in Mumbai the local-train rush-hour travel is very hectic, so working from home has been great.
They were supportive and believed in me and the course, though a bit worried – they saw me sit in front of the laptop for 8 to 10 hours and study at night too. But in the end it was very fruitful for both of us.
How are you different after Kraftshala?
At the start I was very drained by the timings. But as I got into the rhythm, it became beneficial. I learned to structure my day so I can give equal importance to all my tasks – sitting from 10 to 8 PM isn’t easy, but it prepares you for the jobs you’ll get. Right now I’m on the night shift, so I structure my day around quality sleep, the gym, and an evening walk or run.
During the MLP program we were made to talk to new people and discuss new topics, which pushed us out of our comfort zone. At work too, we collaborate with new people and learn a lot.
Any message for future students?
You learn a lot, and they’ll teach you everything – clear your basics, teach you SEO, search, everything. But in the end, the one sitting in the interview is you. You have to be confident, express your thoughts, and tell them what you’ve learned.
If you get nervous, they can’t do anything for you. So in the end, it’s you – but the teachings, learnings and assistance are all great. I’d definitely recommend Kraftshala.
